Borovets is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria . Situated at 1350 m above sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain among age-old pinewoods.

Borovets is located at the foot of peak Moussala (2925 m) - the highest one on Balkan Peninsula . Borovets is easily accessible, being at a distance of 74 km from Sofia and 126 km from Plovdiv . Established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian king, Borovets gradually developed into a modern ski resort of high class and luxury hotels, haute-cuisine restaurants and varied leisure-time entertainment opportunities besides an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountain . Borovets is the Alpine resort among Bulgarian winter resort, providing excellent opportunities for the whole range of winter sports - from the Alpine sports to cross-country skiing, ski-jumps and biathlon. The resort has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds, while its biathlon track is one of the best in the world. The slopes have a permanent snow cover, more than a meter and a half thick, from November to May. The ski runs of various difficulties are suitable for beginners, intermediate, advanced or expert skiers.
